The Zionist Federation of UK and Ireland condemns the anti-Israel motion passed at the Labour Party Conference, proposed by Young Labour. This one-sided motion speaks of “the denial of the right to self-determination [of the Palestinian people]”, yet seems to do just this to the Jewish people. Such an approach is inconsistent and unconducive to the pursuit of a viable and lasting peace agreement.

Richard P Woolf, Acting Chair of the Zionist Federation says: “Whilst we welcome the progress made under Sir Keir’s leadership and are pleased to see that Dame Louise Ellman now feels able to re-join her former political home, it is unfortunate that some Labour members still demonstrate these kinds of views.  We are grateful to Shadow Foreign Secretary, Lisa Nandy, for her own statement condemning this motion, as well as to Sir Keir for his support in her doing so. Real peace can only come when due concern is given to all parties in this conflict. Young Labour’s motion singularly fails here, so cannot be viewed as genuinely supporting peace.”
