Read below the Zionist Federation’s statement following a recent campaign launched by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign
to reject the IHRA working definition on Antisemitism.
30th September 2021
The Zionist Federation of the UK and Ireland are concerned at the Palestine Solidarity Campaign’s (PSC) efforts to reject the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of Antisemitism. This campaign is based on a profound misunderstanding by the PSC and others of the meaning of this definition. The definition is intended to be used in assisting to identify any Antisemitic acts or words, either deliberate or otherwise. It does not have a “chilling” effect on pro-Palestinian discourse or demonstration. Those who say it does, and those who invoke the IHRA definition to achieve this, are profoundly incorrect.
Rather than seek to reject the IHRA definition which has been widely adopted across the world, the Zionist Federation would urge the PSC and other groups to work towards efforts to achieve reconciliation and peaceful co-existence which will better serve all communities in Israel and the Palestinian Territories.
The Zionist Federation will be happy to meet, discuss and provide education on the correct meaning and understanding of the IHRA Working Definition on Antisemitism.
