The Zionist Federation of UK and Ireland welcomes the announcement of Home Secretary, Rt. Hon Priti Patel MP, that the political wing of Hamas will be proscribed along with its military wing, and her statement conflating both elements of the terrorist organisation.
The Zionist Federation, alongside other pro-Israel organisations, is pleased that its efforts have resulted in this outcome which will outlaw acts such as the waving of the Hamas flag and the consequential distress caused to the UK’s Jewish population and other Zionist groups.
Acting Zionist Federation Chair, Richard P Woolf said, “Jewish people deserve to go about their daily lives without the threat of encountering openly Antisemitic, threatening symbols. Hamas is inarguably a terrorist organisation, threatening not only Jews and Israel’s wider population, but also women and minority and opposition groups in Gaza, a position which is untenable in the 21st Century.”
