It is with great regret that we at the Zionist Federation have had to take the difficult decision to cancel our Annual Dinner. Having taken advice and monitoring the situation closely, as I am sure you have been as well, the management and the Hanhalla have decided that we cannot risk the health and wellbeing of our guests.
As I am sure you are aware, this is our key fundraising event of the year and we rely heavily on the income we generate from it. Without its income, we are unable to continue our vital work, to stand up for Israel, to fight its detractors and celebrate its strengths.
In the past year we have been able to reach out to over 40,000 people through our social media campaigns. We successfully co-ordinated the campaign to get Hodder Education to re-edit their biased school textbook. We directly engaged with MPs on a regular basis to lobby for Israel and led the petition to ban Al Quds. We have brought over a dozen speakers to give sessions and talks on Israel (ranging from election updates to cultural nights) as well as taking 18 activists on a fact-finding trip to Israel. Plus, we are spearheading our current campaign to highlight the incitement to hatred and glorification of violence in Palestinian school textbooks – which our Government is funding through International Aid to the Education authority of the Palestinian Authority – which was been debated in the House of Commons in the past week.
I respectfully and humbly ask, in light of the current and ongoing situation and the significant impact it is having, whether you would consider making a donation to the ZF?
To give you an idea of the costs that we face:
- £300 – provides a fully resourced day of education and engagement in a secondary school, with a trained teacher
- £500 – provides a rally or demo to be organised and supplied with materials
- £1000 – provides for campaign booklets to be fully researched, produced and distributed
- £2500 – provides for an Israeli innovator to be brought to the UK for an event
